The short version
Pixel Freedom does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no servers. Every photo you open is processed entirely on your own device, inside your browser. Nothing you load into the extension ever leaves your computer.
What the extension does
Pixel Freedom is a photo tool that opens as a sidebar over the page you're browsing. It lets you crop, resize, convert the format of, and strip the metadata from an image so the file you download comes out clean. All of this happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly: the image decoding, editing, metadata reading and removal, and re-encoding. No image or edit is uploaded anywhere.
Data we collect
None. Specifically, Pixel Freedom does not collect or process:
- Personal or identifying information
- The images you open, edit, or download
- Metadata read from your images (EXIF, C2PA, etc.)
- Your browsing history or the content of pages you visit
- Location, IP address, or device identifiers
- Usage analytics or telemetry of any kind
How your images are handled
When you drop a file into the sidebar, or drag an image off the page you're viewing, that image is held only in your browser's memory for the duration of your editing session. It is passed to local, in-browser code to be edited and re-encoded, and is discarded when you close the sidebar or leave the page. It is never sent to us or any third party.
Permissions and why they're needed
Chrome requires the extension to declare certain permissions. Here is exactly how each one is used:
- activeTab & scripting: used to open the sidebar on the current page only when you click the toolbar icon. Nothing runs on any page until you explicitly invoke it.
- Host access (http/https pages): used solely to fetch an image you deliberately drag into the sidebar from the page you're browsing. The only page data it accesses is the source of an image you actively drag in; it does not monitor, log, or transmit the pages you visit.
Third parties
Pixel Freedom does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking libraries, and it does not share data with anyone, because it does not collect any data to share.
Children's privacy
Because Pixel Freedom collects no data at all, it collects no data from children. The extension is safe for users of any age in this respect.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
